HURON TWP. (WWJ) -- A manhunt has ended Downriver, with a suspect deemed "armed and dangerous" now in custody.

Early Wednesday afternoon, an alert was issued by police for people in the area of Middlebelt and Pennsylvania roads in Huron Township and Taylor.

The Huron Township Department of Public Safety said officers were searching for a man wanted for multiple felonies, who should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sharing information and a photo with the public early Wednesday afternoon, officials said the suspect — who was wanted by Taylor Police — crashed his car and ran into the woods.

In the noon hour, police with dogs and drones were combing the area near Crawford and Middlebelt Roads, southeast of Detroit Metro Airport.

Police urged local residents to stay inside and lock their doors, and not to approach the suspect. Area schools were notified as a precaution.

Shortly after 1 p.m., officials said the man was in custody, with charges expected to be filed in Taylor.

No further details were immediately released.
