Autistic child in pajamas found wandering during early morning storm in West Michigan

A young child was safely reunited with his parents on Saturday after he was discovered dressed in pajamas and walking alone during an overnight thunderstorm in West Michigan.

OTTAWA COUNTY (WWJ) - A young child was safely reunited with his parents on Saturday after he was discovered dressed in pajamas and walking alone during an overnight thunderstorm in West Michigan.

As reported by WOODTV, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched around 2 a.m. to the Mystic Woods Apartment Complex at 5386 Pierce Street after received a report of a found child.

When deputies arrived to the apartment building, residents told them they had found the young boy, aged 3-to-4-years-old, walking around the complex in his pajamas.

The sheriff's office said the child is autistic and non-verbal -- he was unable to authorities where he came from.

Deputies went around the area and tried to finds parents, but were unsuccessful. A K-9 unit was called in to help and the dog was able to trace the child back to his parents at the Westward Apartment complex located across the street.

The child was returned to his family and was uninjured.

No other information about the incident was released. At this time, it remains unclear how the young boy managed to get away from his home.
