ISLE ROYALE (WWJ) A missing hiker from Royal Oak has been found "alive and alert", according to the Isle Royale National Park Service.
Isle Royale National Park Service officials said backpackers found Craig Berg, 70, on Saturday, September 12. He had been missing since September 5, after he left on August 27 for a hike on Greenstone Trail at the Upper Peninsula national park (located on an island in Lake Superior).
He never got a ferry back to the mainland, park officials said.
As of Saturday, authorities from Wisconsin and Minnesota had joined Michigan agencies to search for him.
The Coast Guard, Michigan DNR and Michigan State Police all assisted with the search, involving foot patrols, drones and airplanes. Out-of-state agencies included Minnesota State Patrol Aviation Resources and a Wisconsin group called No One Left Behind Canine Search and Rescue.
The Park Service did not release any further information on Berg's condition, but said they will share more details as the investigation continues.
