Bailiff reportedly shoots, kills tenant during eviction on Detroit's west side; DPD investigating

DETROIT (WWJ) — One person is dead after being shot by a bailiff during an eviction on Detroit’s west side, according to multiple reports.

The shooting happened Friday afternoon at a home on Manderson Road near Palmer Park, according to WDIV.

The tenant wouldn’t answer the door, leading the bailiff to force his way into the home, according to the report. The tenant was reportedly sitting on a bed and holding a weapon.

Detroit police were on the scene and negotiating with the tenant, with mental health personnel on their way, according to a report from Fox 2. At some point during negotiations, a confrontation took place.

After a deployed taser reportedly did not take effect and the tenant allegedly charged the bailiff, who opened fire.

The tenant was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

No other details surrounding the shooting have been released.

Detroit police are investigating.
