TROY (WWJ) - An overnight stand off between police and a barricaded gunman has come to a close after a tense nine hours at a Troy residence, officials said.
The Troy Police Department said on social media that the 22-year-old male suspect was arrested by officers with their Tactical Support Team around 8:35 am. Saturday, almost 10 hours after authorities were called to the home on Starr Drive shortly before midnight the day before.
Authorities said the initial 911 call for help was received by police around 11:43 p.m. Friday from a woman who said she had fled her home after he adult son fired off several gunshots on the property outside.
The woman said beside her son, no one else was in the home.
Officers responded to the area and was able to provide safety to the caller while other members from the department surrounded the residence.
Crisis negotiators were able to speak with the suspect over the phone, but police said he was "agitated and not willing to speak with officers."
Multiple gunshots could be heard coming from the home while police were at the scene, the department added.
While negotiators continued, officers and Troy communications personnel went around and alerted neighbors to shelter in place.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office came to assist officers at the scene along with Alliance Mobile Health ambulance crews.
Eventually, after negotiation attempts failed as the hours went on, the OCSO deployed a robot to search the inside of the home.
"At 8:35 a.m., almost 9 hours after the initial 911 call was received, officers located the 22-year-old male subject hiding in the backseat of a car parked in the backyard of the home," Troy police said in prepared statement.
The suspect was taken into police custody immediately without further incident, the department said.
"The Troy Police Department would like to express our gratitude to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Alliance Mobile Health units, and each Troy PD officer on scene along with our Communications Staff for their help in bringing this incident to a peaceful conclusion," officials said.
According to police, no injuries were reported.
