A 1-year-old baby was trapped inside a Taylor house with a barricaded gunman for eight hours in a scene that involved evacuated neighbors and prayers.

In the end, the scary situation resolved peacefully at about 9 a.m. when the barricaded man gave up and police found the baby inside, unharmed.

Charlie Langton reported it began when a man and woman got into a fight in their apartment on Court Village Lane near Beech Daly and Eureka roads about 1 a.m. and it became so heated that the woman fled, leaving her baby behind.

The man allegedly fired shots as she ran, and he was holed up inside the unit alone with the baby for hours after afterward.

Police are at the scene and have been attempting to make contact with the suspect, shouting "come out with your hands up," through a loudspeaker outside the apartment.

Neighboring units were evacuated and officers report that neighbors were very familiar with this family ... and not in a positive way.

"I talked to several residents who are very familiar with this family ... They are not surprised. We do believe the public is safe. This is a very specific domestic situation between a man and a woman," Lt. Anthony Neal told Langton
