DETROIT (WWJ) -- A barricaded gunman was peacefully taken into custody, his weapon confiscated, after a two-hour standoff with Detroit Police Saturday night.
Around 10 p.m. Saturday, ShotSpotter technology detected gunfire in the 9400 block of Hartwell St., near Schaefer and W. Chicago.
According to Deputy Chief Franklin Hayes, as Detroit police arrived, they saw someone run into a house. Several shots were heard from inside the residence.
Officers enacted DPD's barricaded persons protocol and set a perimeter.
In his first update, Hayes also said that law enforcement had reason to believe there might be another person in the home who had been assaulted or injured.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m., law enforcement announced that the barricaded gunman -- identified as a Black man in his forties -- came out of the house and surrendered to DPD's Special Response Team (SRT).
With the situation peacefully resolved, the SRT swept the residence and found it empty. They were, however, able to confirm that shots were fired inside the home.
A high-powered rifle and spent casings were recovered, with Deputy Chief Hayes saying that DPD would be keeping the gun.
"One less high-powered firearm in the wrong hands," he said.
