(WWJ) With COVID-19 cases falling across the state and country, Beaumont Health System is updating its visitor policy.
All Beaumont Hospitals are allowing one support person/visitor at a time for patients, vaccinated or not, who do not have COVID-19 and are not suspected of having the virus.
Masks must be worn by all visitors regardless of vaccination status. They will also be screened for COVID-19 symptoms before going inside the building. If they have symptoms or are awaiting COVID test results, they will not be allowed to enter.
While a patient can only have one loved one at their bedside at a time; members of their support system may be alternate shifts during the day. Those exchanges can take place in front of the hospital or inside the lobby. A patient is allowed up to three exchanges per day.
After a visit wraps up, the visitor must leave the hospital entirely, according to Beaumont. They cannot wait around in public areas, waiting areas or cafeterias.
Patients who have positive or pending COVID-19 tests will not be allowed visitors. The only exceptions to this are patients who approaching end-of-life, under 21, women in labor, "or other extreme circumstances where the benefits of presence outweigh the risk of COVID-19 exposure," according to the Health System.
Hospital leadership must approve all exceptions.
Beaumont said it will continue to review its policies and update them according to the state of the pandemic. Learn more about the policies here.
Statewide, several more restrictions will be lifted on June 1. This includes outdoor capacity restrictions and capacity limits at residential gatherings. Indoor establishments will be permitted to operate at 50% capacity, and venues will be able to regulate social gatherings. Face masks will still be required indoors for non-vaccinated people.
As of now, all broad restrictions are slated to be lifted on July 1.
According to the COVID-19 vaccine dashboard, 58% of Michiganders 16 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. The test positivity rate statewide is just over 5%.
