DETROIT (WWJ) -- Metro Detroiters hoping to head out for a swim on Belle Isle this weekend may be out of luck.
According to the Belle Isle Park - Michigan Facebook page on Thursday, high E. coli count is to blame for the closure of the Belle Isle beach. A tipster told WWJ that as of 6 p.m. Friday, the beach remained closed.
The DNR took samples Friday morning to figure out when people can go back in the water, however, there has not been an update as of this posting.
The park says people can relax and unwind on the sand but the water is closed until resampling has finished.
Meantime, the Michigan state park's Facebook page also states there will be maintenance on the fountain Saturday -- and possibly throughout the weekend. If you're hoping to see the fountain in action, keep in mind the spectacle may be off for periods of time while officials get everything in working order.
You can find other things to do on the popular historic island by visiting the Belle Isle Park website.
