HOLLY (WWJ) -- The Oakland County Sheriff's Office dive team and local police were on scene at the Shiawassee River near Holly, Monday afternoon, searching for any signs of kids in the water.
According to Holly Police Chief J. Narsh, the search began "out of an overabundance of caution" Monday afternoon — based on a report of two bikes found on Oakland St. at Emily, where there is access to the river.
In response, Holly Police and Fire responded to check the river, and Holly Fire personnel traveled downstream from that location in a boat.
In an update provided mid-afternoon, the chief wrote: "No one was discovered. We also contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s office for a drone or possibly an aviation search. We have no active report anyone is in the water or in danger, however the Holly Police and Fire Departments are taking every precaution. We will share more on the Holly Police Department Facebook page at the conclusion of our precautionary search."
Meanwhile, a sheriff's spokesperson said the OCSO did have divers out on the scene, although he stressed that they did not know if anyone had gone into the water.
The sheriff's office had cleared the scene before 3:30 p.m.
Officials are not releasing any further details at this time.
