(WWJ) A Birmingham bridal shop owner who shut down her business and left clients without the wedding gowns and accessories they paid for will have to pay restitution to her victims.
Court documents show Nadica Ristivojevic of West Bloomfield pleaded no contest to larceny.
Announcing the charges back in 2023, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said an investigation found that Ristivojevic's business was struggling, and she would use the money from new orders to pay for past orders.
Bridal shop customers were allegedly defrauded of $40,000 to $50,000 in total.
According to investigators, more than half-a-dozen customers came forward and said they paid for designer dresses they never received — nor were they given their money back.
"The defendant robbed these victims of tens of thousands of dollars, but the stress, anxiety, and inconvenience she caused when she committed these crimes goes far beyond money," McDonald said.
Ristivojevic was sentenced 35 days in jail and will have to pay nearly $17,000 to seven clients.
She closed Birmingham Bridal in June of 2023.
