TROY (WWJ) - Shoppers heading out for Black Friday deals at one of Metro Detroit’s biggest malls may see protesters this afternoon.

Several activist groups are expected to hold a protest in front of Somerset Mall in Troy at 2 p.m. today to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. They said the four-day truce in the Israel-Hamas war is not enough. They are also asking for an end to U.S. aid to Israel.

The activists say that commercial centers like Somerset Mall play an important role in U.S. aid to Israel.

The protesters said they want freedom for all Palestinians. “We need a ceasefire and unhindered aid allowed in, an end to the illegal blockade on Gaza, end to the illegal occupation in the West Bank and unlimitedly, freedom for all Palestinians.”

Protesters both briefly interrupted the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and marched near the parade in Detroit to call for a permanent end to the fighting.

A four-day ceasefire begins Nov. 24. The ceasefire will include the exchange of hostages between Israel and Hamas.
