ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- Three people had to be rescued from the waters of Lake St. Clair, after a boat overturned.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. Monday, about a quarter mile east of the 9 Mile Road Tower in St. Clair Shores.
Official said the MCSO Marine Division responded to the area on reports of a capsized vessel with three individuals in the water.
Patrol Boat 4 arrived to find the three people hanging onto a passerby’s vessel.
All three people were pulled from the water and taken to the 9 Mile Road boat launch where they were medically checked by St. Clair Shores Fire Department, officials said.
There's no information at this time as to what caused the boat to overturn.
While it may be warm outside, the waters of Lake St. Clair are still frigid this time of year, estimated to be around 45 degrees F, or up to 48 degrees F when closer to the shore. The water is generally not considered safe for swimming until it reaches into the high 60s into the 70s, which typically doesn't happen until June.
