Body found by kayaker in Rouge River identified as that of missing Wayne woman, police investigating how she died

WAYNE (WWJ) -- Police say they now know the identity of the person whose body was found by a kayaker in the Lower Rouge River last week.

The Wayne Police Department said Monday that the human remains discovered by on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 16 are that of 56-year-old Rosalind Taylor, a resident of the City of Wayne.

While Taylor's remains, spotted tangled in brush along the riverbank, were significantly decomposed, police said the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office was able to make a positive ID using dental records.

Police said Taylor was reported missing by family members after she disappeared on Aug. 18, 2024. She was last seen in downtown Wayne that day, but she didn't return home.

As for how Taylor died, police said the still can't answer that.

What happened to Taylor remains under investigation.
