PONTIAC (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway in Pontiac after a decomposing human body was found in a wooded area on the Oakland County campus.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday to a report of suspected human remains discovered by a person who was walking in an area just south of the Oakland County Circuit Court building.
It's believed that the body may have been there for some time, as the remains "appear to be in an advanced state of decomposition," according to a news release.
Later in the day, investigators were still processing the scene and working to identify the person. At this time, the OCSO said investigators can only confirm the deceased appears to be an adult male.
It's unclear how he died, or if foul play may be involved.
A sheriff's office spokesman told WWJ Newsradio 950 that this remains an active investigation, and more details would be released when more information is learned.
