CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a Westland man whose body was found along I-275.

According to officials with the MSP Second District, someone called 911 Sunday night to report seeing a person lying on the side of the northbound freeway, near Koppernick Road in Canton Township.

Responding to the scene shortly after 10 p.m., troopers found the man lying on the shoulder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers also found red vehicle parts, as well as the man's rental car, police said.

It's unclear at this time why the 28-year-old man was outside the car, or if there may have been foul play involved.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

As the investigation continues, MSP is asking anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information that could help police determine what exactly happened, to call State Police at 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (800-773-2587).

As always, those who call Crime Stoppers will stay 100% anonymous, and will not be required to speak to police. Anonymous tips can also be sent via an online form at this link.
