WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) – A Boil Water Advisory affecting thousands of Wayne County residents this weekend has been lifted.

The city of Wayne and parts of Romulus, Westland and Inkster had been told to boil water before consuming or cooking with it since Friday evening.

The Great Lakes Water Authority issued the advisory as a precaution due to the loss of pressure in the water distribution system caused by an equipment malfunction from a power outage, which is under investigation.

GLWA officials announced the end of the advisory Sunday morning, saying “testing has confirmed that the water is safe to consume and cook with and meets all Safe Drinking Water Act regulations.”

Water authorities said Saturday that the immediate issues had been fixed and pressure and flow were quickly restored, but corrective measures regarding the drinking water and further testing were still underway.

Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, the precautionary measure of a boil water advisory is recommended.
