HOLLY (WWJ) - Several thousands residents in Oakland County will have to boil their water for yet another day as crews work to make emergency repairs to a water main, officials said.

The Village of Holly, which is home to roughly 6,000 people, issued the Boil Water Alert on Tuesday, June 20, after a valve broke on a water main along North Saginaw Street.

The break caused the loss of water pressure issue in the lines, officials said, and may have allowed bacteria to contaminate the water system.

The alert is in effect for all those who use the Village of Holly water system, which includes the entire village as well as customers outside the village limits attached to the system.

Affected residents should bring all water to a boil for one minute then let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.

Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water, officials added. Households should continue using boiled or bottled water until further notice.

The advisory is expected to last until at least Thursday.
