OXFORD (WWJ) — Students and staff at Oxford High School have been dismissed for the day after being placed on so-called "secure protocol" after receiving a bomb threat Monday morning.
After a search of school property, authorities have deemed the threat to be not credible.
A spokesperson for the Oakland County Sheriff's Department tells WWJ school officials received a bomb threat around 10 a.m. Monday, prompting bomb sniffing dogs to be called to the school.
Authorities swept the school and the area outside, ultimately finding nothing. "Out of an abundance of caution," the spokesperson said, a large police presence was called to the school.
The message said an unidentified person had a bomb in a vehicle in the parking lot and was going to detonate the bomb, according to the sheriff's office.
Computer crimes investigators believe the threat came from Malaysia, officials told WWJ's Jon Hewett. Officials say this is not the first time someone from overseas has made a threat against the school.
School officials say everyone at the school is safe.
The threat comes a week before James Crumbley, the father of the Oxford High School shooter, is set to go on trial for involuntary manslaughter in connection with his son's 2021 mass shooting that claimed four lives and injured seven others.
Earlier this month Jennifer Crumbley was convicted on all four counts of involuntary manslaughter.
Their son, Ethan Crumbley, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting that killed Madisyn Baldwin, Justin Shilling, Tate Myre and Hana St. Juliana. The sentence is expected to be appealed.
