WARREN (WWJ) — A Walmart store in Warren has been evacuated after someone called in a bomb threat Wednesday afternoon.

The Walmart near 12 Mile and Van Dyke was evacuated around 3:30 p.m. after receiving the threat, according to Warren police.

A shopper named Kelly told WWJ’s Luke Sloan she was inside the store getting groceries when the frantic situation began unfolding.

“I was just getting ready to check out, I spent an hour getting groceries and I heard people running and all this commotion,” she said, noting “it sounded like they were laughing.”

“And then they just started screaming, ‘everybody evacuate, everybody evacuate quickly!’ And everybody just started running out of the store – everybody, employees, nobody knew what was going on,” Kelly said.

She said while police had not arrived at the scene by the time she left, people were being told to get away from the building.

Many people left their groceries behind, even some who had already paid for their goods.

Warren police are actively investigating at the store and are working to determine whether the threat was credible.

No other information has been released.
