Boom heard for miles when car explodes at Halmich Park in Warren, man pulled from vehicle by firefighters

WARREN (WWJ) -- A man is expected to survive after getting rescued from inside his burning car at a local park.

Warren residents reported hearing a loud boom from miles away when the car exploded at around 8 p.m. Monday (Feb. 16) in Halmich Park, along 13 Mile Rd. near Dequindre Rd.

Warren Fire officials said crews from multiple departments responded to the scene to find a 2013 Honda Accord fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters had to pull a man out of the car.

He had serious burns to his hands and lower arms and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officials said a preliminary assessment by Warren firefighter-paramedics and supported by hospital staff reported that the victim's injuries were non-life-threatening.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames in about ten minutes. No other injuries were reported.

Photos shared to social media shows the car was completely destroyed.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
