(WWJ) A local investment group has purchased Buddy's Pizza from a private equity company.
The group, led by Andrew Dickow, Saber Ammori and Kevin Denha, bought the pizza chain from CapitalSpring LLC, according to a report on Friday by Crain's Detroit Business.
The new owners say they are focused on enhancing product quality, authenticity and customer experience. Plans to expand their frozen pizza offerings nationwide are also being explored.
Private equity firm CapitalSpring LLC took ownership of Buddy's on December 31, 2017.
The purchase price wasn't disclosed.
Detroit-style pizza is a rectangular, thick-crust pan pizza originating in the Motor City in the 1940s. It's known for its airy, focaccia-like dough, crispy frico cheese edges and reverse layering — where sauce is applied on top of the cheese. It features Wisconsin brick cheese, packed all the way to the ends of the pan, which melts into a caramelized crust along the high-sided, heavy-duty steel pans.
