TROY (WWJ) - A late-night jaunt to a fast food chain in Metro Detroit lead to the arrest of a 45-year-old Detroit woman allegedly driving under the influence after a worker informed police of her strange behavior in the drive-thru, cops said.

According to the Troy Police Department, officers were first called out to the Burger King at the corner of Big Beaver Road and Rochester Road for a reckless driver just before 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.

The caller told police they saw the driver of a Lincoln was swerving on Big Beaver Road and drove on the sidewalk before pulling into the restaurant parking lot.

Once at the scene, officers found the suspect vehicle, a 2021 Lincoln Nautilus, in the drive-thru lane driven by a sole-occupant identified as a 45-year-old Detroit woman.

As police approached the vehicle, they reported being able to smell intoxicants coming from the SUV.

When asked by officers, the woman admitted to having one drink before getting behind the wheel. Officers reported that the driver appeared confused about where she was and slurred her words as she spoke.

"While speaking with the driver, a Burger King employee informed officers that the driver never placed an order for food and they were unsure why she was in the drive-thru lane," authorities said of the incident. "The driver was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations, to which she did but the officers noted she performed poorly."

Police said the woman submitted to a preliminary breath test which ended with a result of .22%, a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit. She was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility where she agreed to a Chemical Breath Test.

She ended up with results of .19% and .20%.

The driver was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated and now faces drunk driving charges.
