(WWJ) A group of UAW workers have a decision to make regarding their future.

Stellantis is offering voluntary buyouts to employees at assembly plants in Detroit, Sterling Heights, and Toledo as well as at the Warren Truck plant and 16 other facilities.

The Free Press reports the payments range from $50,000 for workers with at least one year of seniority but less than 15 years to $72,000 for workers with 25 years or more seniority. The offer also includes six months of medical benefits, excluding dental.

"That's not a lot of money," Julian Austin told WWJ's Mike Campbell outside the Warren Truck plant Friday morning.  "It's not a good idea unless you have a plan, if that's what you want to do, they should be offering more though."

Workers will have the weekend to think about what they'll do.  The offer will run from March 24 through May 8.

Last month, Stellantis reported 2024 profits of $5.8 billion and workers will receive profit sharing checks averaging about $3,700.

Talk about tariffs and overall business conditions have caused trouble for the auto industry this year.
