(WWJ) -- Canada will begin letting fully vaccinated U.S. citizens into the country again, beginning next month.
Canadian officials say Americans who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed to cross the border starting on Aug. 9, while borders will be open to the rest of the world on Sept. 7, according to government officials.
The Canadian government says "thanks to the hard work of Canadians, rising vaccination rates and declining COVID-19 cases, the Government of Canada is able to move forward with adjusted border measures."
The country’s mandatory 14-day quarantine requirement will be waived as of Aug. 9 for eligible travelers who are currently residing in the U.S. and have received a full course of a COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Canada.
Officials noted the reopening of borders hinges on the "domestic epidemiologic situation (remaining) favourable."
Currently, fully vaccinated Canadians are allowed to fly into the U.S., but there is still no word yet on when the U.S. will allow them to cross the border by land.
