(WWJ) - The announcement by the Detroit Lions and Ford Field about their partnership with Primitiv Performance is another step in shifting attitudes toward the use of cannabis and CBD as legitimate ways to manage pain.
On a new Daily J, WWJ's Zach Clark looks at the future of pain management.
Primitiv Performance, a CBD-based performance and recovery brand owned by former Detroit Lions Calvin Johnson and Rob Sims, has grown since the state legalized the sale of marijuana. What started as a supplier to a dispensary has turned into a business offering pain management options that don’t involve opioids.
“I feel like me and Calvin, we got so much to offer a new industry like this when it comes to performance products and using different plant medicines to do that,” Sims told Clark.
Both Sims and Johnson said the use of CBD and cannabis allowed them to avoid opioids, which experts say can be highly addictive.
The company is working with Harvard University and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to explore how the use of cannabis and other plant medicines can be used as treatments.
Primitiv Performance plans to continue promoting the use of CBD and other cannabinoids as research into their use expands.
