MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A crash involving a motorcycle and car in Washtenaw County left a man dead.
Michigan State Police (MSP) said it happened on Monday, June 29, at approximately 6:30 p.m., in Manchester Township, at the intersection of Austin and Sharon roads.
According to MSP, their preliminary investigation revealed a 49-year-old Canton man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle was riding westbound through the intersection. At the same time, a 2010 Buick Lucerne was driving eastbound and attempted to turn left onto Sharon.
Authorities said the Buick driver failed to yield to the motorcycle and turned in front of it. The two vehicles collided.
The impact forced the man off his motorcycle. First responders pronounced him dead on scene. Police have not released his name.
The driver of the Buick—a 68-year-old Addison woman—was hospitalized at Henry Ford Jackson with serious injuries. According to MSP, she is expected to survive.
Deputies are still investigating if alcohol or drugs were factors.
They remind drivers that motorcycles come out in droves over the summer months, and ask that both drivers and motorcyclists “remain vigilant” at all times, especially at intersections.
