DETROIT (WWJ) -- A car that was stolen in Detroit, early Thursday morning, was found in Novi with a child inside.

Detroit Police said a 911 call came in at around 1 a.m. on April 10 about a silver 2011 Chevy Impala that was stolen with a child in the backseat, at the BP gas station on 7 Mile Rd. at Grand River Ave.

Michigan State Police got involved in the investigation after the suspect allegedly drove away from Detroit police.

Later, Novi Police reported that the car was involved in a crash on I-96 near Novi Road. The suspect was abandoned the car and fled, police said, but was detained at a gas station where he was taken into custody.

Police said the child, described as a boy from 8 to 13 years old, was found unharmed. He was being checked out at a local hospital.

The suspect's name has not been released, with charges pending.
