HOLLY (WWJ) -- A man is dead and a woman is in custody following a barricaded gunman situation in Holly.
Michigan State Police say the situation started in Monroe County on Tuesday morning when the two suspects carjacked a woman who was with her grandchildren.
The suspects -- later identified as 40-year-old Michelle Holladay and 39-year-old William Lanham -- were then spotted in the stolen minivan by a rest area over 80 miles away off NB I-75 near Holly Road, and a chase with police ensued.
After the suspects crashed, they fled the vehicle and ran into a home on East Maple near Holly Road. The residents were able to get out of the house uninjured.
After an hours-long standoff with police, the woman surrendered late Tuesday night. The man continued to barricade himself in the house, and neighbors were told to remain in their homes as he fired shots at police.
Just after midnight, MSP officials say a bomb squad robot was sent into the home and found the suspect dead from a gun shot wound.
An investigation into the situation is ongoing. As of Wednesday morning, East Holly Road remains closed.
