Carjacker arrested after screwdriver stabbing, police chase in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing someone with a screwdriver, stealing their car and crashing it into a vacant building in Detroit.


The incident happened in the 5300 block of Hartwell, near Tireman, at around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, according Detroit Police.

Police said the suspect stabbed a driver with a screwdriver, and sped off in their car.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, and was reported to be in stable condition.

When officers located the stolen car, there was a brief chase that ended when the suspect crashed into a vacant building, police said.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was then arrested without further incident.

Police said he was unarmed.

No officers or bystanders were injured.

The suspect's name was not immediately released, with expected charges pending.
