PORT HURON (WWJ) -- Animal control workers and police rescued over a dozen cats and several dogs from a home in St. Clair County on Tuesday in an alleged animal hoarding situation.
According to St. Clair County Animal Control, their department, along with Port Huron police officers, responded to a complaint of alleged animal neglect and hoarding in the 600 block of 15th Street, at about 1 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, 13 cats and eight dogs were seized from the property.
Animal control said many of the pets were sick or injured, with two needing emergency care.
Also, most of the floors of the home were covered with urine and feces, said officials.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this point.
The cats and dogs will be put up for adoption once they are in better shape, said animal control.
In the meantime, animal control is accepting donations of Clorox bleach, Dawn dish soap, unscented scoopable cat litter, Indoor Purina Cat Chow and Small Breed Purina Dog Chow to help care for the animals while they're in recovery.
Donations can be dropped off at the animal control's office, located at 3378 Griswold Road, Port Huron, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
