SANDUSKY, Ohio (WWJ) – A “new formula for thrills” is coming to Cedar Point next year.
The amusement park on Monday released a video teasing the return of the famed Top Thrill Dragster in 2024.
The roller coaster was shut down in August of 2021 after a piece of the ride came off and struck a woman waiting in line in the head, leaving her severely injured.
Cedar Point officials said back in September they were working to create a “new and reimagine ride experience,” but no further details were released.
Fans have been speculating about what that may look like and when it might happen. Monday’s teaser video confirmed the famed ride will return in some capacity next year, saying “a new formula for thrills” is coming in 2024.
And the 45-second video only furthered the speculation about what it will look like.
Fans of Cedar Point are buzzing on Reddit following the teaser, with some wondering if the use of “formula” in the video may be a hint that the revamped ride could be centered around a Formula 1 racing theme.
A Cedar Point description of the ride, which opened in 2003, said it only takes 3.8 seconds “to go from a complete standstill to 120 mph” for the 17-second race. A new racing theme isn’t out of the question.
Others on Reddit are speculating more information could be released during the park’s Winter Chill Out event at the end of February.
