Middle school in Center Line evacuated due to "minor" natural gas leak

Center Line officials said students and staff at Wolfe Middle School are currently evacuating after a natural gas leak was discovered in the area.

CENTER LINE (WWJ) -- Center Line students and staff at Wolfe Middle School were evacuated after a natural gas leak was discovered in the area.

Reports said Consumer's Energy was requested to the middle school, located in the 8640 block of McKinley, to look into the issue.

According to to the Centerline Public Safety Department, it was found to be a "minor leak." Maintenance from the school was there before police, officials said, and the issue is being dealt with.

The school had an early release day scheduled, so students were being sent home regardless.

There are no reports of illness or injury in connection with the incident.

It's not clear what caused the leak.
