IONIA (WWJ) -- Former Detroit City Council member and TV anchor Charles Pugh, who was serving time for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy, has been released from prison.

The 50-year-old was granted an early release in August from the Ionia prison where he's served a little more than five years.

Following his release on Wednesday, Pugh will be be required to wear a tether for six months of his two year probation as well as list himself on Michigan's sex offender registry.

He also cannot have contact with minors, unless he has permission.

There are reports that state Pugh plans to start an online network with former Radio DJ Reggie Reg in February.

In 2016, Pugh admitted to having illegal sex with a boy under the age of 16, whom he met when the victim visited the Fox 2 studios with a theater group.

Pugh added that he was young, and ”didn’t really fully understand the gravity of the position" he was in at the time.

The victim's mother, in contrast, called Pugh a “monster” and “fiend,” and said that he did great damage to her family and to others.

At the time of his sentencing, Pugh downplayed his wrongdoing, in which he said that he "meant him no harm in any way," and that he believed the victim knew that.
