DETROIT (WWJ) - Another child was struck by gunfire in Detroit on Thursday evening after police say the unsecured firearm discharged while an 11-year-old boy was jumping on a bed inside his home.

WWJ's Charlie Langton said the young child was "accidentally" shot around 7 p.m. off Churchill Street on Detroit's west side on April 20.

"This is a sad situation here, but an 11-year-old boy apparently recovering now at a local hospital," Langton reported.

According to the Detroit Police Department, the child was jumping on his bed when the gun, which was not secured, discharged and struck the boy.

"He was immediately taken to a hospital where he remains this morning in stable condition," Langton said.

Police are still piecing together what led to the gun being discharged and why the gun ended up where it was. Additional details about the incident were not released by police pending their investigation.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
