DETROIT (WWJ) A little girl died and three others are critically injured because of a two-car crash on Detroit's east side.

Police said a Buick Lacrosse was trying to turn left when a Lincoln MKZ struck it. The crash happened on Saturday, August 23, in the area of Gratiot and August-- near Outer Drive-- at 12:38 a.m.

A child, whose age was not released, died from her injuries. Two women and a teen girl are hospitalized in critical condition. All were occupants of the Lacrosse.

Authorities told WWJ one of those women was found outside of the car. Police investigated to determine if she was a pedestrian or if she had been inside the Lacrosse at the time of the crash. They later concluded she had been in the car.

A man and a woman-- who were occupants of the MKZ-- are hospitalized in stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
