Child runover, killed in bulldozer accident in West Michigan

7-year-old killed in bulldozer accident in West Michigan

BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) - An accident in West Michigan left a 7-year-old boy dead after he was runover by a bulldozer, Michigan State Police said on Twitter.

According to the Michigan State Police, the incident happened Thursday evening near the boy's home in Maple Grove Township, close to Battle Creek. The child's father was driving a bulldozer while pulling the boy along in a trailer. Police said the child fell out and got caught underneath the bulldozer.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said the machine was known to malfunction and would often stop suddenly and shift into reverse -- they believe this is what happened when the boy fell out.

So far authorities have considered the child's death an accident, but an investigation is ongoing.

No further information was released at this time.
