(WWJ) A Grosse Ile High School student, thought to be taking part in a Tik Tok trend called the "Chromebook Challenge," is under investigation after their chromebook started sparking and caught on fire.

Police and fire departments from Grosse Ile, Trenton and Riverview were called to the school Thursday after a small fire was reported.

Detectives say the student inserted some type of metal into the Chromebook causing it to ignite.  The student was released to his parents.

School administrators and police have interviewed several witnesses and collected video of the incident as evidence.

The Grosse Ile Fire Department says 35 students were evaluated and one student was transported to the hospital for further evaluation as a precautionary measure.

"Symptoms ranged from nausea, headache, dizziness, at that point we triaged every student that was present in the classroom," Grosse Ile Fire Chief Bob Roscoe told WWJ's Jon Hewett. "Took their vital signs, evaluated them, to my knowledge only one student was transported for further evaluation at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital."

Roscoe said it appeared to him to be another bad choice by a student.

A statement from the school district said in part:
The school is actively investigating the incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the student code of conduct.
This behavior reflects a concerning trend circulating on social media platforms, where students are encouraged to tamper with Chromebook charging ports using metal objects. This practice is extremely dangerous and can lead to injury and significant property damage.

Police and school administrators are asking parents to talk with their children about the dangers of participating in viral challenges and unsafe online behaviors.
