BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – The City of Buffalo officially changed the name of LaSalle Park to the Ralph Wilson Jr. Centennial Park.

The common council on Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of the name change and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown signed off on the name change just minutes later.

"He's bringing people together," she said. "People will enjoy being together…He would bring people together in the spirit of joy and the outdoors and exercise. That's what Ralph was about."

The name change takes effect immediately. Construction on the park is anticipated to begin in 2022 and should be complete in 2024.
