DETROIT (WWJ) -- There is yet more trouble at an abandoned apartment complex on Detroit's west side that was recently flagged for too much trash.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reports a pair of lawsuits have been filed by the City of Detroit against the owner of the abandoned apartment building, on Greenfield just south of McNichols.

The lawsuits hope to force the owners to clean up the property and eliminate squatters from the property.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the city sent in a team to clean up the trash, after numerous complaints, and videos of the mess went viral.

But Langton said, once again, there was quite a bit of garbage on the property when he stopped by Tuesday morning.

"Now it seems that problems are escalating with illegal activity, some even setting fires outside of this building," Langton reported.

Detroiter Vincent Charlton, who lives nearby, was happy to hear about the lawsuits.

"Man, this is just not cool," he said. "Before it went viral, I was gonna call the city. Because I was like 'This is crazy. It was unbelievable the way it looked and everything, so I was happy when they came out here and fixed it up."

Detroit City Councilwoman Angela Woodfield Calloway is among those calling for the city to take over the property.

There was no immediate comment from the owners of the building.
