CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A serial shoplifter could be heading back to prison after he was allegedly caught stealing from a Target store in Clinton Township this week.

This is the 30th time 66-year-old Dwayne Taylor was arrested for retail fraud, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

The Clinton Township resident spent some time in jail, but has been on parole since July 8.

On Monday, officials said Taylor was detained by the Target loss prevention team after he was seen loading $900 worth of goods into a shopping cart and then leaving the store with the items, without paying for them.

Retail fraud is a five-year felony, but Taylor could be imprisoned for a lengthier sentence due to being a habitual offender.

Due to Taylor’s "extensive criminal record," his bond was set at $50,000. He was referred for a substance abuse evaluation, and must wear a steel cuff GPS tether if he is released.

“This defendant has been arrested for retail fraud an astonishing 30 times and is currently out on parole for the very same offense. His repeated disregard for the law shows a clear pattern of criminal behavior and a refusal to change course," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido. "Our office will be seeking significant consequences in this case. Retail theft is not a victimless crime, it harms businesses, workers, and communities. Chronic offenders must be held accountable."

Taylor will be back in 41B District Court for Probable Cause Conference set for Aug. 18.
