CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) – Police are warning Clinton Township residents of a man posing as a police officer and making scam calls.
Clinton Twp. police officials say “an unknown subject has been randomly reaching out to people, via telephone, and representing themselves as Det. Anderson from the Clinton Township Police Department.”
Authorities have not said when the calls were made or how many there have been, but residents have reported similarities in the scam calls.
Officials said the call comes across with no caller ID and the suspect will say “this call is being recorded.” He also asks if the residents are “on a secure line” or in a “confidential area.”
He identifies himself as “Officer Jay Anderson, badge number 338C” with the Clinton Twp. Police Department and uses police terms such as “10-4,” according to police.
“The Clinton Township Police Department will NEVER ask for any payment or any financial information to make a payment over the phone,” officials said in a press release.
Authorities are asking anyone who believes they have been targeted by this fraud to call Captain Blake at (586) 493-7857.
