CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) — One man is dead after authorities say he was hit by construction machinery while working at a job site in Macomb County Friday morning.
Chesterfield Township police said they were dispatched to an area along New Center Boulevard near I-94 and 21 Mile just after 11 a.m. after receiving a call about a construction worker who was injured after being struck by a bulldozer.
When first responders arrived on scene, they said the worker, a 53-year-old Clinton Twp. man, sustained "traumatic injuries" and was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the driver of the bulldozer —a 58-year-old Melvindale man — was moving concrete at the site when the 53-year-old was hit while standing outside his dump truck.
Investigators said they believed the incident was a "horrible accident" and have ruled out factors such as drugs and alcohol.
The Melvindale man is cooperating with police as Chesterfield Detectives and Crash Investigators will continue to investigate.
The family of the Clinton Twp. man has been notified of his death — police have not released the names of the two workers at this time.
Authorities said the body of the 53-year-old has been turned over to to Macomb County Medical Examiner’s office.
