DETROIT (WWJ) -- It's an oily mess on Gratiot Avenue on Detroit's east side, after 300 gallons of cooking oil spilled during a crash.

According to the Detroit Fire Department, the crash happened near the Better Made factory on Gratiot near Sterrit Ave. on Tuesday.

Officials said the tanker truck was making a delivery to the potato chip factory when the crash happened, at around 8:30 a.m.

The Detroit FD told WWJ Newsradio 950's Darrylin Horne that, fortunately, none of the cooking oil made it down into the sewers.

The trucking company making the delivery is handling the cleanup on the ground, and the Fire Marshal Division is monitoring the situation as the remaining oil left on the tanker is off-loaded onto another truck.

It remained an active scene, with cleanup ongoing, mid-afternoon on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.
