'This is the most tricked out… Prime guy': Ann Arbor police officer investigating suspicious package finds left behind Amazon boxes, delivers them

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - When was suspicious box turned out to be more than a dozen Amazon packages accidentally left behind in an Ann Arbor neighborhood, one police officer stepped up to make sure they all got to their destinations.

The Ann Arbor Police Department said they received a report of suspicious package on Sunday, February 19th just before 5 p.m. and dispatched Officer Evan Sparling to the area to investigation.

The Department said Sparling found the box on Duane Court where police said it turned out not to be suspicious at all.

"It turned out to be an Amazon box that was accidentally left behind with more than a dozen packages inside with local addresses," police said of the incident.

Sparling took it upon himself to make sure the packages made it to residents on-time by hand-delivering them himself.

"While some of them were confused at first, all homeowners were extremely grateful," Ann Arbor police added.

In video footage captured by Sparling's body camera, one resident opened her door to accept the package before realizing the delivery man was wearing a police uniform.

'Wait, you're a police officer," she exclaimed.

"Yep!' Sparling replied.

"Dwayne, it's a police officer!" the resident told another person in the home.

Sparling explained about how her package, along with several others, must've been accidentally left behind by the initial delivery person in a green box on the street.

"I've probably got about 30 more to go, so I'm just going around and delivering them real quick," the officer said, "that way you guys get your packages."

"You did not sign up for this when you signed up to serve and protect us," the lady said.

"I didn't, but hey! I'm fine with doing this," Sparling answered.

As a man come to the door and stood next to the woman, she said "this is the most tricked out... Prime guy."

The police department applauded Sparling's choice to deliver the packages himself, saying he went "above and beyond" his duties.
