DETROIT (WWJ) - Investigators in Detroit are piecing together what caused a victim to sustain gunshot wounds early Friday morning on the outskirts of the city.

Michigan State Police said they were dispatched to the Baymont Inn at 11000 Eight Mile Road in Royal Oak Township shortly after midnight Friday after the Detroit Regional Communication Center received multiple calls about a gunshot victim at the hotel.

When troopers arrived on scene, it was discovered the victim had been shot within Detroit city limits. The victim then ran across 8 Mile, crossing into Ferndale/Royal Oak, and made their way to the hotel.

Troopers contacted the Detroit Police Department and the case was transferred over.

At this time, the investigation remains ongoing. No further details, including the identity of the victim, were released.
