EAST CHINA TWP. (WWJ) -- What started as a domestic violence incident in St. Clair County ended in a barricaded standoff in Ohio.

The incident started when police said they received a call at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday from a man who said he had been seriously injured in his driveway by 52-year-old Gabriel Wagner, of St. Clair Shores.

Investigations showed that Wagner then kidnapped his estranged partner, 55-year-old Carol Durand, from a residence in the 5200 block of Pointe Drive in East China Township, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said he then forced Durand into a black 2007 Honda Accord before fleeing the area.

Several homes in the area were checked as well as Wagner’s house in St. Clair Shores -- but there were no signs of him or his vehicle.

Later, at about 10 a.m., it was discovered that Wagner and his wife were in a hotel room in Findlay, Ohio, just off of I-75.

When officers arrived on the scene, Wagner and the woman refused to leave and barricaded themselves inside.

Finally, after 12 hours of negotiations, the woman exited and was detained for a medical evaluation.

Police said that further talks led to Wagner surrendering.

No gunshots were fired during the ordeal.

Wagner was arrested on warrants from St. Clair County, including unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated domestic violence.

Officers in Ohio and St. Clair County are continuing their investigations.
