OXFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A crash involving a semi-truck in Oxford Township left a man in critical condition.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred on Wednesday, June 17, around 5:30 a.m. in the area of North Lapeer and West Oakwood roads. A driver in a Western Star semi-truck, traveling northbound, attempted to use the median crossover.

Authorities said the semi turned into the path of a southbound Buick Regal, driven by a 30-year-old Attica Township man, and collided with it.

The Oxford Township Fire Department responded to the scene to render emergency aid. First responders had to extricate the Buick driver after he became trapped inside his vehicle.

They rushed him to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The semi-truck driver, a 34-year-old Genesee Township man, was not hurt.

Sheriff's officials said alcohol and drugs did not factor into the crash, but speed by the Buick "may have contributed to the crash's severity."

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation.
