DETROIT (WWJ) -- An east side Detroit business owner is cleaning up after an early morning smash and grab robbery.
WWJ's Charlie Langton was on the scene Wednesday morning at the Diamond Market, a popular party store on Houston near Whittier and Kelly roads, where there's a sizable hole in the side of the building.
The owner of the business, Avis Magow, told Langton he was alerted by police that criminals had stolen an SUV, and then smashed it into his store.
"We got up in the morning, we got a phone call. They said that there was a car inside of our building," Magow said. "We've been here for 30 years; never had this issue ever. And you know, they came here, cops said that they seen them, and they jumped in the car and they couldn't follow them."
The getaway car was a stolen black SRT Jeep, according to police.
No injuries were reported, Langton said, but there's no insurance, no video of the suspects, and a lot of damage left behind.
Anyone who may have information on the suspects can call the Detroit Police Department's non-emergency line at 313-267-4600. To remain 100% anonymous, tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up (800-773-2587).
