ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- A road closure beginning next week well impact drivers daily in Macomb County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that Utica Road will be closed daily at Gratiot Avenue (M-3) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Monday, May 23, through Friday, May 27.

During these closures, traffic will be detoured to 12 Mile Road to access Gratiot.

The closure is needed to allow crews to build sidewalks and ramps at the intersection, MDOT said.

This work is part of the second year of the two-year project that began in February to rebuild 3 miles of Gratiot Ave., between 11 Mile and 14 Mile roads Roseville.

The project involved removing pavement and replacing asphalt roadway, installing modern traffic signals, improving drainage and improving ramps and sidewalks to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Crews will also replace signs, fill sidewalk gaps and add plants, trees and shrubs.

All work is weather-permitting.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall.
